Bois Malaisé (waterfall 5) - semi-aquatic hike

Route de Birloton 97125 Bouillante

Voir le trajet

Bois Malaisé is one of the wildest and most spectacular sites in the Bouillante highlands. Nestled in the heart of dense vegetation, this river features several successive waterfalls, some of which are accessible only after a challenging hike.

The hike begins with a relatively accessible and pleasant first section along a standard forest trail. But the route quickly becomes more technical: steep slopes, slippery terrain, sections with ropes… the trail requires caution and confidence in wet conditions.

Upon arrival, the reward is well worth the effort: a magnificent waterfall plunging into a beautiful natural pool, set in a wild and unspoiled setting.

🌿 Why we love this spot

  • a very wild and immersive atmosphere
  • two refreshing and deep pool
  • a varied and challenging route
  • a little-visited and still-preserved site
  • immersion in the rainforest

👉 Not recommended with young children

👉 This outing is more akin to canyoning than a simple hike

⚠️ Respect for the site
Fragile natural area: please do not leave any trash behind and avoid using products in the water to preserve this environment.

🚗 Good to know
Parking is limited at the top of the site. We strongly advise against driving down to the parking lot at the bottom, as the road is in very poor condition.

💡 BAM Tip
Be properly equipped (sturdy shoes, possibly a rope) and go when the weather is dry (it’s essential to check the weather forecast before heading out, as the water level in the river can rise quickly). To see all the waterfalls, opt for canyoning.
